Waterfall between Baños and Shell |
Shell is a town of over 10,000 people, one-half of which are Ecuadorian military. Most folks here are very laid-back and friendly. Located on the edge of the rain forest, Shell averages nearly 20 ft of rain per year. It would be easy to be a weatherman here; there's about a 97% chance of rain every day! The temperature is usually in the 70's, but can get much hotter in the afternoon sun. From a North American mind set, there isn't a lot to do in Shell. People pass the time with friends and family having cafecito (coffee) or playing soccer. Favorite foods which can be purchased in town include salchipapas (french fries with little hot dogs on top) and fritada (fried pork). |
| Shell is full of beauty. There is a stunning variety of plants, insects, and landforms that take one's breath away. The pictures on this page cannot compare with the real thing, so why not come and visit yourself? There's nothing like seeing first-hand God's work in this special place! |
